Camels with a Cause

One Love Outreach
The members of cj and CWAC helped Dave Culbreath, cj’s Director of Web Services, create One Love Outreach, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing aid and relief to Jamaicans who are in need of food, water, and other basic essentials. Pooling their talents, which range from Web design and custom production to graphic design and public relations, everyone at cj and CWAC was dedicated to helping their co-worker and friend reach his dream.

From Nashville with Love
Following CWAC’s first effort of raising more than $23,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, CWAC was devoted to helping Culbreath get his five-year dream of launching a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing aid to Jamaicans. In 1998, Culbreath first visited Jamaica and realized he could use his time and resources to help Jamaicans who had fallen victim to natural disasters, such as Hurricane Dean, or other conditions out of their control. Since that time, he has traveled to Jamaica several times a year with his wife and One Love Outreach co-founder, Lindsay, and small groups of volunteers to provide funds and resources to those in need.

“It’s great to know that my actions directly affect someone’s life in a positive manner,” Culbreath explained. “I get to watch lives being changed—both for the Jamaicans who we serve and for the Americans doing the serving. When you see the smiles on the faces of those who had a need that you helped them fulfill, you want to keep seeing them.”

The Culbreaths work with people who are aware of the specific needs of those Jamaicans without voices. The couple, along with hundreds of volunteers, has done everything from taking medical supplies to infirmaries and digging a septic tank to building homes and providing school supplies for children.

As for the Future
Culbreath’s goal is for One Love Outreach to become an internationally recognized leader for relief efforts and support in Jamaica. As the scope of his efforts expand, so too will the geographic footprint of the nonprofit’s efforts within the Caribbean.

During his time helping those in Jamaica, he has established relationships with individuals in the island’s government, who he hopes can directly advise him of specific needs so he can expedite the importation of relief materials. A licensed pilot, Culbreath would eventually like to acquire an aircraft for rapid transportation of materials into the island nation in addition to a warehouse to keep goods and supplies for those in need.
